Who are you writing for? Who is the paper catered towards?

I didn’t understand this element at first because it seemed as if there wasn’t a specific definition. I knew that each paper had a specific audience but I wasn’t sure who the audience was and how I could write to them so that they’d understand I was writing for them. But, as the semester progressed and more examples were shown and I was able to practice more, this became clearer.
