A scientific narrative is a personal story that includes scientific knowledge. For instance, you tell a story about pulmonary hypertension, the definition, and describe how it affected you or your loved one (putting a personal take on it). We navigated different ones such as the student samples from our class website, ‘My Dad said, “Man Up”! written by Dana Deravinn Carr, DrPH, MPH.. We did a genre analysis and annotations on specific science narratives. We analyzed the format and the genre conventions of a scientific narrative. A scientific narrative includes an introduction, body paragraphs detailing what the science topic is, its effect on them, and a conclusion.
In class, we went over our narrative first drafts, did a peer review, and discussed the good and bad things about the draft. Then we took those comments and revised our drafts, this helped us to better our writing, and see what our writing may look like from another perspective.
