What prompted you to write?

Exigence confused me at first because I keep confusing it with purpose. It is a purpose in some way but it has more meaning because it is almost like a cause for your writing. Purpose is more of a “I’m writing this to do this” while exigence is more of a “I’m writing this because of this”. With this understanding in mind, I could better use exigence in my writing.
